Park Soo-ha is a high school student who can hear people’s thoughts without them speaking aloud. This drama begins immediately showcasing the special ability of the male lead character.

Aside from that, Lee Bo-young, Lee Jong-suk and the whole cast did a great job in portraying their respective roles. Probably this was one of the main reasons it was so popular in Korea. Another factor that makes this drama captivating is the fast pace of the story and the fact that the writer did every character justice. There are also scenes that are quite heart-warming. Although it has a flavor of romance, it didn’t cause any imbalances in the story. It has a legal/fantasy theme coupled with a “noona-dongsaeng” romance. One of the many good things about this drama is mainly the story, credit of course going to the writer. It garnered an average of 20% viewership in Korea which is not easy to get with all of the high quality competition of good programs. This drama was aired in South Korea in 2013 and caught the attention and love of many Koreans.
As they meet, Jang Hye-sung and Park Soo-ha join forces as they try to unveil the truth behind the cases Hye-sung handles. When the murder case happened, Park Soo-ha developed a special ability to hear the thoughts of people around him. He was the son of the man murdered 10 years ago which Hye-sung witnessed. While Hye-sung was making her way as a lawyer, Park Soo-ha was looking for her. As a result, she stood as the witness who gave the decisive testimony that convicted the murderer. When she was a high school student, she witnessed a murder happen. Jang Hye-sung struggled with poverty and her childhood.

So if you like thoughtful dramas with some comedy mixed in, a great cast, and great chemistry between the main couple, then check out I Hear Your Voice! It adds a little spice to an otherwise common story, but still focuses more on the characters and their development. I have seen several Korean dramas that include some sort of fantasy element that is used to give the show a unique premise rather than be the sole focus of the show. I have actually noticed this is more common in Korean dramas than American TV shows. Despite the flavor it brings to the drama, it is never the sole focus. It is an interesting ability that allows Soo Ha to understand people in ways a normal person can’t. Something I find interesting about this drama concerns Soo Ha’s ability to read thoughts. The drama also tends to get better as it goes along, especially as the main story heats up. There are plenty of light and cute moments to balance things out. This drama has a lot of dramatic elements to it, but it is never presented in a melodramatic way. Their interactions were always fun to watch, but I was always rooting for Soo Ha. Although his character was very sweet, I never felt much chemistry between him and Hye Sung. There are so many wonderful supporting characters including the naïve lawyer Cha Kwan Woo (Yoon Sang Hyun). The leads have great chemistry, which is something I’ve come to expect from any of Lee Jong Suk’s roles. Overall, I Hear Your Voice is such a solid drama.
